buying a boat

Went back to look at 1992 v20 Still haven't met owner.Asked if me and my son could put boat in without him there. He said no problem. Hooked boat up took it to public dock put it in. It started rite up. After about 5 min I backed it away from ramp and put it in forward. There was no forward!!! I Need to find someone in the westport ct area to look at it.Everything else about boat is great.. Any help???

Would be willing to pay???

If this is an i/outboard there is an adjustment process you must go through to guarantee forward neutral and reverse when installing the outdrive, it may be as simple as this. If the boat has been maintained and is clean, chances are someone rushed the out drive re-install

If its an outboard take the hood off the motor. While looking at the shifting arm on the motor, put it in forward. It may just be out of adjustment?? Probably not broken since it does go in reverse?
