| Brass hub impeller

Hey guys I got the lower unit separated from the upper (with a lot of oil coming out). Got the impeller housing off without any problems. After prying like crazy and getting a dremel tool to finally cut the old impeller off the shaft. The impeller on the original 470 has a brass hub. Does the replacement have to be a brass hub? The kit I bought at the dealer (after looking up serial #s) doesn't seem like its brass-more of a fiber core. I haven't had a chance to clean the shaft yet so I don't want to force it on - but it seems like the correct ID.

Some are brass and some are a fiber core that is a porous black plastic like material. Either one will work, some prefer the brass and others the fiber core.

Thanks Ferm - that brass one was a bear to get off. I'll install the fiber core one I have

Be sure to clean up your input shaft good with some fine emery cloth. Like Ferm said either one should work fine. I usually buy the original replacement kit from the Mercury dealer close to me. Sierra makes a good replacement kit too!!
