Default New v20 owner

Hello all,

I just bought a 1985 v20 with a i/o 3.7 Merc cruiser.

Nice boat and reading how you guys like these boats I knew I'd be ok with a great board like this..

I also have a 1965 IH Baby Scout and I am on another board just like this.

Q: After a new bat and one cable and a starter selonid it will only start if i jump the one post on the starter. There is a wire (from the selonid) leading to what looks like a preoiler? Is that waht that thing is? Oh its a water cooled voltage regulator?
Thanks in advance...

Don

Hi Ambush

Welcome to the site and congrats on your new boat.

Some things you should know... if you need information on these boats or their engines, this is usually the best place to get it......but, it's a lot easier, and the results are more likely to be correct, the more information we have. Pictures are worth their weight in gold.. they allow us to see instead of trying to visualize what youre talking about. (plus we love boat porn).
Also, try to be as specific as possible so we can try and get you the best possible answer. And please, feel free to join in the various discussions here. new people and new ideas are always welcome.

Default Thank you

Thanks for the welcome.

I looked around and found out it is a water cooled volt reg... I am having a start problem,

this is what i have done so far:
1, new bat group 27
2. new grd cable
3. new start selanoid
4. new eng key switch, and thats were my problem seems to be i think it was wired wrong from the pre owner. I.m following the trouble shoot from some one on the board (forgot who) but still cant get it right. I'm gonna go look at the pics he used...

Thanks again...P.S. i bought a manual...
