Hey Willy, while you're searching country singers, I'll have to give you my input. back when my wife an I were first married, she drug me to a Loretta Lynn concert. I wasn't very thrilled about going, but wife is a huge fan(she's got the movie Coal Minors Daughter memorized, not just the song). I'd have to say it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Even at her age, that women has more power in her voice than most singers half her age. She's still touring, we've seen her four times, all in smaller venues. IF you ever get the chance to see her in person, I highly recommend it. I searched U-Tube for some of her later music, but its just not the same, it just doesn't do her justice. My whole life has been something in which music has played a great part. I have loved rock soul motown jazz classical blues country equally my whole life.
Sometimes you have a performer who is basically a rock artist but is phenomenal in other venues also. Zac Brown is one who comes to mine with an ability to excel in country rock and pop.
Or a Lionel Ritchie who was a great performer with a motown base in the Commodores but whose love ballads set him apart from from anyone else.
In Sugarland with Jennifer Nettles I see that greatness, one of the best voices ever with clarity, power control that is off the charts. They also are mainly country singer songwriters but also do ballads of their own that don't fit in a category. This song is one of those, sophisticated style, great lyrics and sung with soul and grace.
I especially find that singer songwriters like her and Ritchie and several others are indeed national treasures.
Back in the early 70's I went to a small club in Philadelphia with friends from the Army and saw a new upcoming singer songwriter named Jim Croce. I new the minute I heard him this is a guy who will make American music stand on its head. He did and was well on his way until a deadly plane crash took him.
I guess that I have been very fortunate to love listening to everything from Bob Marley to Led Zepplin, from the Band to Pavarotti.
Yes and I love some of Loretta's songs and Crystal Gayle who is one of my all time favorites. George Strait is playing in my stereo a great deal and my kids know all his songs by heart.
It's a beautiful world of music out there and sometimes expanding horizons is a good thing
