Default Help Removing Lower Unit

Got a '86 BlackMax 175. Trying to put in a new water pump, but I can't get the lower unit off. I have removed the anode and bolt underneath, the two nuts underneat the cavitation plate, the front nut, and loosened the two side nuts. It will drop down about 1/8", but the front keeps binding on what looks like that front stud. The washer underneath had rusted out so I figure the rest of it can't be in too good a shape. Soaked it down with WD40. Tapped on it with a hammer, tried heating it with a torch, still won't budge. Help?

that stud sounds like it is hanging up. you have six nuts removed right? only 4 if its a 20" with the last two loose? you might have to beat on that stud in the front.

Thank you CTerrebonne for the fast response. I got 4 of them out and the 2 side ones loose. The shiftshaft doesn't have to be turned any certain way does it? I will proceed to get my mini-maul and give it a harder whack in the morning then.

Man, I tried. I guess I just got bad luck. I beat it this morning before I went to work. Not one budge. I soaked it down with more WD40 and came back this evening and beat on it some more with my mini maul. I've hit hard enough to mangle the very top of the stud. I've tried lightly prying the lower unit from the tailshaft, but I'm afraid something will break. I see no way to get the stupid thing off. Anything else I should try to do before I just put it back together, cut off the top 1/4 of the front stud and bolt it down and let it rip until the pump does go out?
