Default Fuel questions

I'm new to this forum, so lets begin here. I love my boat, and am going to keep doing my best to keep it floating, so I'll probably be here a lot.

I have an 89 Wellcraft V20 with an outboard '90 150 Merc BlackMax. It has the stock fuel tank in it, which, if anybody knows about them, how do you clean them out or where can I get a new one? It has something in there that keeps clogging the fuel intake.

Problem number 2 is I broke the fuel gauge in the cluster. Do I need to buy a certain gauge, or are gauges all relatively the same?

Any Help would be great!

Welcome to the site, AS far as your questions go, do as search for fuel tanks, its a topic thats well covered, other topics that you are probably going to ask about are rod boxes, hatches, transom repairs, seat boxes and fuel consuption. Enjoy the benefits of everyones experiance on here, all these topics are well covered. generaly most aftermarket fule guages will operate with your sender. the only ones that I know that may have a different sender is VDO guages

Welcome to the site!!

You are going to need to remove the sending unit to get in the tank, Get all gas out and use a rag to get whats left of the fuel. Then you could blow some air in there with a rag over the pick up.

But that might not be your problem, There might be a rotted anti siphon vale clogging?

Like said above try search, all has been covered!!

Welcome to the site!!!!

With any luck your tank won't be rotten, like the ones in all the rest of the V-20's.

Thanks for the warm welcomes!

Are the tanks made of that poly material that gets eaten by Ethanol? I only run my boat in Delaware, and that is the only fuel sold in the state anymore. What I did to help my situation was take the factory screen out of the end of the pick-up tube, and stuck a rolled up piece of stainless window screen into it that stuck down into the tank 6", and gave it more room to get fuel while not clogging. I want it to be more of a right fix than my generic rigging.

I personally remove the screens on the pick up, but i use at least two fuel fiters in line of varing micron ratings. If the screen gets stoped up, your probably not going to be able to da anythign about it whiule you're offshore, but if a fuel filter gets clogged, i always carry at least one spare
