A new buddy of mine here at work builds wooden boats. So far a 17' kayak similar but much nicer than the one in MJ's link and also a canoe. He had over 500 hours in the kayak and equipped it with a rudder for better tracking. I've seen pics and it is awesome, but too time consuming for me. I'd rather be fishing. Also, my buddy said that guy got robbed on the wood if he really paid $1500. Think about it, around 40 lbs of wood for $1500?? Something is wrong there. The guy here at work said for that $$ he bought enough wood to build 20 boats.

That's pretty nice maco. Wood just looks better than fiberglass.
Does a canoe have any advantages over a kayak? I'm thinking about getting one for fishing the inside of the islands down here.

Well I showed it to my buddy and he said if the guy bought the strips already with the bead and cove routed in them it would be very expensive. My buddy routed his own wood, hence it was cheaper.
