transom

I had my engine remounted after i installed the steering cable and noticed that the washer sank underthe gelcoat when they tightened the bolt so I installed a transom brace plate and also notice that the transom gelcoat was calapsing but there is no flex in the transom, it seems solid but the wood must be wet, cause when they made the transom they covered it with a aluminum cap but the wood is exposed,not fiberglassed. should i be concerned even if there is not flex,,, its a 1978,,

If the transom seems solid and there is no movement, then use it and don't worry you be fine!!
but you better start reading some posts and get your self ready for a new transom cause its coming!

Mine gave no indication it was rotten. After I removed the motor and started poking around, found the only good place was the center location where the motor bolted.

seems solid but if i wanted to fix itis there an easy way to do it like git rot or do i have to dig out the bad wood and fill it with something
I do read the post on transom fixes but i dont have the room or the time or tools to do it
if i had a repair shop do it how much do you think it would cost?
