Default Garmin 160 FF questions

Some of you have stated you have used a Garmin 160 (blue) FF and highly recommend it. Does anyone know if the newer Garmin 160 C - (color) is as good as the previous 160's?

Thanks

Carl

Hey MJ,

It doesn't appear that the 160 can be bought new except on EBAY. How much did those units cost new when they were in production? There are two on EBAY right now 1. Used for $76 and NIB for $98. I can get the 160c for $179 and no S&H.

Thanks

Carl

Carl, I believe the Garmin 250C dual frequency replaced the 160C Blue. I've used both and couldn't really tell a difference. I think the dual frequency is supposed to help out in deeper waters....you can get the color 250C DF for about the same price - probably the way to go....btw I have the 250 black and white and its great.

I bought mine NTB from Ebay about 3 or 4 years ago, I know it was over $100 I am thinking $150 but really can't remember?

But you won't be sorry if you buy one!! I use to sit on the back jigging and watching mine line on the fish finder!

Good Luck!

Thanks for all the replies and advice. I have realized it's all about the wattage - ie the x-ducer. I made a bad assumption that the 160c replaced the 160 blue because it has the same designator. The 160c is 150 watts (RMS) and 1200w peak to peak - where as the 160 (blue) is 400w and 3200w peak to peak. The garmin 250 is similar in wattage as the 160 blue -

Thanks for the heads up BR.

I will let you know when I pull the trigger on a purchase.

Thanks

Carl

Just to let you know - I am the proud new owner of a Garmin 160 (blue) fishfinder. I won it on EBAY today it's New In Box for $137.

It's in the mail - I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.

Thanks for all the help and advice - bring on spring
