Default 92 johnson 175

i have a 92 johnson 175 that went underwater and is siezed. i figured the engine would need a new powerhead. now, i have heard a few suggestions from have it rebuilt to soak the cylinders in marvel mystery oil. this may sound stupid but, my pressure washer went under also. i pulled the head off the 8 horse honda and poured marvel mystery oil on top of the piston. after a couple days she broke lose. rebuilt carb, new head gasket and now she works fine. i'm no mechanic, but is fixing this engine something i might be able to do myself? if so, where should i start?

Hope Skools jumps in on this one, but I imagine it depends on how long the motor was under and what was done to it after it came out...if it was drained and oiled after dunking, it might be worthwile, but if corrosion has set in, it's probably junk...might be able to part it out...carbs could be rebuilt...good luck...let us know...

will it turn over? was it drained? Take to plugs out and pour in some marvel mystery oil. take to carbs off and pour some in the intake as well to hopefully save the crank. should some pics of the motor to see how much salt has began to eat.

Skools is the one for this one!!

I had a friend that had a motor under water for 2 days and got it working again.
But it took alot of soaking, and new wireing bnut it worked in the end.

Then he sold it ;D

Well, I did the marvel mystery thing right after my boat was pulled up from a 3 - 5 hour soaking in fresh water. 70 hp johnson.

If it hasn't been down long, I think if you jump on it as soon as it comes out, and get it going again. If you wait even one day, you are pretty much screwed especially in salt.

If it will turn over, its worth a try though.

Just my .02.

Do a search on marvel and you might see where I posted a while back the exact procedure that I followed to get mine going again.

not sounding good for the no-bucks fishing team. boat was submerged, while on trailer, in the 35 foot tidal surge that katrina pushed into diamondhead, ms. was prob under for about 1-3 hours, just my best guess. i got the boat at auction couple of weeks ago. so i imagine it hasnt been touched since the storm. about 8-9 months. engine is siezed. and windows were busted out. other than that she got one or two chips in gel-coat. i was hoping engine could be fixed. or at least rebuilt. sounds like new powerhead will be neccessary. 1800 bucks for the rig, guess i shouldnt complain too much

o.k. guys, couldnt help myself. just went outside and took a close look at my engine. not seeing much external corosion. relays on top of carbs are a little rusty but, they pulled out ez enough. a little corosion on hot wire at selinoid but its the green tighten me up kind, not the white ur screwed kind. pulled the plugs, they were only hand tight, and the plugs had a little rust around the little pole thing. just a little but, that cant be good. lookin through plug hole i could see some corosion. it was the white ur screwed kind. butterflies have a little corosion but, they are opening and closing fine. STUPID QUESTION- back of motor says ois 2000. does that meen motor is 2000 model? hour meter reads 216
