Default How Much Weight is Too Much?  Got New to Me Engine

Hey guys,

Is a 455 pound engine too much weight to be hanging on a bracket? *Just curious. *

properly mounted bracket on a V20 with a good transom, no I would not think so. Common weight area for engines, several guys on this board have V6 engines with brackets that weigh around that.

Thanks Willy,

I just bought this engine:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWN%3AIT

It's counter-rotating, but I think it should do fine and got it for a good price. *$2900 plus $400 shipping to my house. *Not too shabby, huh *???

Grace, I've got the same motor in the 150 version. They are known to be good, extra reliable motors, real workhorse, but, they are not known for their fuel efficiency. Every V6 200 is gonna suck it down anyway....bolt it up and enjoy!

Most any bracket will hold 300 hp!! So no matter what you got the bracket will hold it!

Just have to make sure the transom was built to with stand the weight!!

My motor is 390, so you are talking just 65 pounds more, I stand on mine to fish and stuff with no problems.

But I am nerves with that weight hanging off the rear while trailing, all that weight bouncing!

Most go just fine and never have a problem, But I made up a Transom saver that CB says will take out a 4 lane hwy if it were ever to fall off! :o

But I rather be safe then have the transom crack later! And seeing that I did the transom myself I am not all that confident

i emailed that guy about both but he was to high for both. Same motor as the 200 /225 from 1988 to 1999 so their are a ton of them out there. If you want it to be a 225 just buy a set of 225 carbs. that all that changes.

That's a good reliable motor Grace. Plenty of power and should last a long long time.

MJ had some good advice on trailering IMO. Going over RR tracks can be bad news for heavy outboards. But apparently you have to make your own transom saver due to the bracket?

MJ - got pics of yours?

Hey guys,

Thanks for all of your words of encouragement.

Skools, welcome home buddy. Hey, the other motor actually sold for $3800! By the way, why in the world would you be interested in buying two more motors??? You already have the fastest motor stand in the world ;D
