Marine Electric Fuel Pump

I’m having problems with fuel delivery when I’m at idle waiting for a spot at the ramp. If I don’t prime the fuel bulb, I’m dead in the water. I have replaced the fuel pump with no improvement and I’m thinking of installing a Walbro electric fuel pump. Any thoughts and comments regarding this concept and GPH and pump pressure would be appreciated.

You should not need one!!

If the pump is new then check other things, the little O ring on the connector, the ball its self, new fuel filter.

Thats a big motor, are you using the right size hose?? The smaller hose might not supply enough?

What does the Tac say when at Idle?? You might need to up it just a tad to make it run better at idel.
I have 175 Evinrude and it runs like 600 on nthe tac at idle.

I concur. You shouldn't need an electric pump to keep up. Make sure you have 3/8" fuel line and that there are no air leaks anywhere. If there is an air leak it will be most noticeable at idle. Get a small tank and hook it directly to the pump and see if it still does it. If it fixs it then you have a fuel delivery problem, if not you have a fuel pump problem. Start off with diagnosing the problem, then fix it.

Idle is set at 900-1000 rpm, less than that she shuts down. Will try your recommendation this afternoon. Thanks

I've got an 80 moderl 150 2.0L and it idles at 600 in neutral, 500-550 in gear. I believe it uses the same pump as yours. Have you tried pumping the bulb while it's running to see if it will idle down some and stay running? Also on that engine I believe the pump runs off of a hose, are you sure that hose isn't cracked? Is the flame arrestor gunked up with carbon from 25+ years of use?

try a new primer bulb, use on of the new Mercury's with the yellow ends, its the best one on the market right now. Ive seen more problems caused by such a simple thing as a primer bulb,

I agree you shouldn't need an electric, but the previous owner had one installed when he purchased the rig new and I love it.

Say "no to the bulb"

Flounder, tell me about the electric pump. I 've tried every suggestion (new yamaha bulb) and can't get a constant flow of fuel in idle without priming every few minutes.

just a thought, what kind of conditionid your fuel line in, I've see teh inner liner of the fuel line separate fromt eh outer, you couldn't tell the line was sucking closed by looking at it( we found it later when we cut it open), try a new fuel line, also float test the anti siphon valve on the fuel pickup and replace with a shutoff valve to remain legal
