Default Beaufort Off Shore June 3

I usually dont go out on weekends but the guy who I sold my 27 Albemarle to came down for his maiden shake down voyage with his sons so I went out. Left the dock at 5am got back at 6pm..Pretty sloppy conditions and a thunder buster here and there but the fishies were jumping in the boat . We had 12 hook ups with mahi and gaffed em all. Weight ran from 6 lbs to a solid 31 that I saw coming from the tuna tower. He had another big one right behind him but he never hit any of the baits but you could see him clearly as he flashed by the boat. No kings at all but we lost a big Wahoo who was easily 40 pounds..My dive captain friends tell me that the big kings have moved in to the AR's and deep rocks and if the weather stays warm they should be out by the sea buoy soon. In july the Mahi should also be close by so you dont need to run 40 miles out to catch them..Well I better fire up the grill and have a drink.. Frank

You don't have the Mahi but you all got giant stripers most of the season and you dont have to go out that far to catch them. I was in vietnam with a kid who's dad was a commercial fisherman who also ran a bass boat on the side for stripers in the fall and winter down in your area. When you think of bass boat you dont think of a 38 foot lobster boat with twin cat's.......He carried around a picture of him and 4 or 5 guys with a deck full of stripers all going 30 to 40 pounds. We get them here in the fall but its hit and miss like this year was a wash out in my opinion..We have lots of other fishies to make up for it but I still like to fish for stripers and next to mahi they are my favorite grill fish....Frank
