This story reminds me of a couple of years ago when I was helping my Dad put up a fence. I was digging a hole along the property line with a post hole digger when after about a foot deep, I hit something hard. I thought at first I hit a rock or tree root but this sounded different. I cleared the dirt and looked at my Dad, and said "Hey Dad I think I hit a bomb" :o. He says it isnt a bomb, keep digging. After he took a closer look we both confirmed it was definitely a bomb. It turns out my neighbor who was in Korea some how kept what turned out to be an old practice mortar round. My neighbor, who we were never really friendly with must have burried it along the property line to get it as far away from his house as possible in case it would explode. We called the police who in turn called the bomb squad and they took it away in one of those bomb squad trailers. They werent sure if it was a practice round or a real round, either way they detonated the shell at their facility and never revealed weather it was a practice round or live. This all happend while my neighbor was out. When she returend home she wanted to know what happend to her husbands souvenir. ::)

A buddy of mine was in the Air Force...had a practice bomb he kept beside the fireplace and eventually used it as an anchor for a johnboat...lost it in about 15' of water in a pond...had me come out w/ snorkle equip. to try and locate...it's still there...wherever there is... :) ...

we got some good 4x4 trails behind camp shelby. couple years back some teens found an unexploded mortar in the woods and took it. long story short, 3 days later, at wolf river, 12 kids dead. the kid who originaly found it was not there. some bullies beat him up and took it from him so he left. what got me was that officials at the base pressed charges on the kid for theft and tresspassing. bomb was found in an unfenced area with no signs where many peeps go 4 wheelin. they never assumed any responsibility but did promptly put up a fence. now that i think about it, as many times as we used the word bomb, big brother is definantly watching us. and after i threatened to invade venezula, lol
