Default Rough Day on the Bay

I was out in the Delaware Bay and the ocean on Saturday and it was by far the roughest water I have experienced with the V. I figured it would be rough but I thought if I could get around the cape at the tip of Cape May where the ocean meets the bay I would get a little shelter from the wind and be able to fish about a mile off. That wasnt the case I was greeted with true 3-4 footers with an occasional 5 thrown in. It was one of those days where you see a boat on the crest of a swell and it almost disappears on the down swing. The V handled the water about as well as could be expected. I didnt stuff the bow once but came close a couple of times. I still don't know how you guys are stuffing the bows of these boats, must be some real rough stuff you guys fish in.

No pics Mike the camera would have gotten wet :-/ I was listening to the VHF and they were saying 7-10 in the ocean about 10 miles from Cape May inlet. I know my limits and stayed about a mile from the beach and took it easy on the way out.

Your are right about the wave height, the Prince is just outside the Bay where the waves were big. ;)

I took mine into the bay on Saturday for a shake down cruise.
I turned around and went back up the Broadkill.
From a distance it looked smooth enough to play,
but once you got on it, those swells were rough.

You should have gone out on Sunday,
it was a complete turn around.
I think the highest swell in the bay was two feet.

Its not hard at all, you just have to find the right wave, at the right angle, at the right speed. And once you get where you can recognize all of those variables, you can avoid doing it again.

Parish, your right about Sunday. I took my Dad and a couple of his buddies fishing and it was like a lake out there. I ran out to the "Stakes" Nj side about 2 miles North of #1 (aka Buglight) and set up along with about 100 other boats. We fished for about 2 hours and almost caught a "Nj Trashcan Slam" 1 blue, 1 sea robin, 1 shark, 1 skate, if I would have caught an oyster cracker instead of the blue the slam would have been complete.

I only went about a mile out from Roosevelt inlet on the De. side.
We were just playing around, dirffted for a while,
saw some fish on the finder but didn't catch
anything until we went back into teh Broadkill,
then we caught one stargazer, I call it a toad fish,
Lumber caught one the other week and asked what it was.
