Default v 20 speed with the 470 merc
anyone know the top speed you can expect with the merc 470 motor in the v20

Depends on the hp rating of it, but I believe most say it pushes them to around 40 give or take 5 mph.

38 on the gps is the best I have seen with 2 people and full fuel. Probably could have eeked out a couple more mph playing with trim. The 190 hp version and different prop should do a little more.

Got mine up to 42 once on salt water wide open, trimmed out with fresh rebuilt 170hp .040 over! High test gas and 104 octane booster added!

I've gotten my 85 cuddly 170 up to around 35 WOT and it cruises at around 25 at 3000 RPM. I don't think it's ever been rebuilt - I redid the head 10 years ago just after I got it.
