Default 1987 V21 Rod Storage Modification

Hello all, I'm looking for some ideas. I need to do something with those useless rod storage inserts on either side of the boat. Mine are serviceable, but are very brittle. We never use them and I would like to replace them with some type of aftermarket insert with a door/hatch. I've been looking around the internet and have been having a difficult time finding something that would work. Any suggestions? I am also open to other ideas or solutions for this modification. Thanks gang!

Cool

You can buy aftermarket ones on eBay from several different makers. Or, you can make your own out of wood or starboard like several people here have done.

Some people make them into storage area for fire extinguishers paddles, etc etc etc. The sky's the limit, and the choices are your's alone.

The ones on my 99 WA are cracked and brittle as well. I think have to do something about it in the near future.

The rod boxes on my son's v20 were cracked and brittle as well. There were even holes in a few corners. What he did was to remove them and fix the holes and brittle areas by fiberglassing the backside in those areas. He put a few layers on most corners and where there were weak areas. He then painted them and they look good as new. He did the cup holder as well.
