| Evinrude 200 HO on V21 - 1st report

Well, I am impressed...........so far seems like quite a refined and powerful outboard. Shark River, Belmar NJ calm am so hey - let's go for ride. Ran up the coast all the way into NY harbor to the Statue of Liberty. Round trip, I'll guess maybe 60 miles. Also did some fishing for flatties - about 10 shorts and 1 keeper. Back to the motor, sits well on the V21, no weight issues, starts, idles and ran great. Back bay run was just over 46 mph with 3/4 fuel, two on board and 5,300 rpm. I'm going to switch the 18" Rebel to the 17" and re check performance. Incredible torque and throttle response. Can run mid 20's at 3,500 rpm with the motor sounding like it's idling...... Pulled right up to Tom in his V20 " Step Up" on the ocean - wow his inboard V is clean. I'll post some pics soon - including shot of NY fire boat shooting the water canon from about 8 guns . |

Sounds like good solid motor for a V you have, Greene...I'm sincerely glad no weight issues as I had feared...in some cases, it's great to be wrong and this is one of them!!... ...I lookin' forward to the 17P prop report...and the pics sound pretty cool too...

Too bad these boats weren't rated up to 225 hp......because it's the same block, but 238 hp at the prop. Mercury Opti 225 would be fast on a V21 too..........both maybe 55 mph ? |

sorry you did not reach my numbers--maybe the extra foot--lol I did raise my motor up a hole and trim it to the max--feels like it is floating--but otherwise sounds like you are a happy camper with it. How was the fuel burn for the distance. I will take pictures of rpm and gps next time out for ya. Glad your weight concerns were calmed--and what about all the smoke she puts out---LOL

My engine may be mounted too low - will check cav plate position next time I take boat out when on plane.

If you are looking for top speed, I would get a viper, if i remember correctly the rebel is better for mid range cruising efficiency than speed.

I like a good top end when I can get it...but mid range cruising speed EFFICIENCY is where it's at for me...over the life of that motor, it can add up to a substantial $$ number...and probably easier on the motor itself...

I'm fine tuning top speed BECAUSE it's also related to total efficiency. Nearly all of my boating is cruising 3,000 - 4,000 rpm range, besides trolling. To me, setting it up to run close to maximum possible speed is also RELATED to efficiency - to a degree, it means it's dragging the least amount - therefore long term easiest on the motor. Viper prop - my understanding is the Viper runs better with the DFI motor, but the etec better with the Rebel. Reason - the etec produces more torque, and the Rebel is a bigger cupped prop. |
