heat! use a hair drier and plastic scraper, if your good you can use a heat gun, but be careful as you can destroy the gel coat with to much heat!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't even bother with that stuff... get a (EDIT) looks like they changed the name to: 3m stripe off wheel
I have worked and worked for many hours and then got the magic eraser and got more done in minutes. Last edited by smokeonthewater; 05-22-2013 at 12:52 PM. |

to be sure we are talking about the same thing... the (EDIT) 3m stripe off wheel goes in a drill... It is a gum rubber wheel
It works 100 times better than any other method http://www.autopartsandstuff.com/3m-...FUJqMgodR1kAtg If you do use the heat gun (I don't recommend it) be VERY careful... it IS possible to damage the fiberglass with it. Last edited by smokeonthewater; 05-22-2013 at 12:52 PM. |

I agree about not using a heat gun...TOO EASY to overheat even on LOW setting...a good hairdryer is better...and MJ's right about the plastic scraper...razor blades WILL cut into the gel...

When I replaced the striping on my boat and the decals on my motor cover I bought some decal remover from Walmart. I wiped it on and let it set for a few minutes then used a plastic scraper to remove the bulk of it. After that I took an old towel and put the remover on it and rubbed the excess adhesive off. Worked pretty easily.

I've done them all. Hair dryer, not hot enough. Heat gun, too dam hot OUCH! Gasket scraper gouges and scrapes the gel coat. Plastic paint scraper, wear down my thumb nail and burn my thumb with the heat gun or hair dryer.
The 3m wheel is the way to go. Took my boot stripe off in about 5 minutes! I was amazed! It must use some kind of alien technology.
