Default merc 3.7 head gasket

i have been doing alot of research on the 3.7 and head gasket types-- what is different to a merc gasket to a after market ones--- i have never seen one...using a alumin head will solve the problems ??????

I said im am removing the water pump amd fitting a electric one and i think i may need to rethink it--some guys were disscusing harmonics on these engines from the crank and camshaft caused buy the big stroke and being a 4cyl

do you think that merc put the water pump on the camshaft to reduce harmonics---i would think a impellor in water would absorb some--does this sound crazy

I don't think the water pump has anything to do with harmonics, it was just an easy way to put a water pump on an engine with out complicating it. Just reuse the stock water pump, put new seals in the timing cover and you'll be fine. i think you will creating a possibility for issues with the electric water pump. The stock one works just fine and won't cost you any more money. if you want to upgrade the cooling system, put a larger heat exchanger on the engine. As far as harmonics go, in theory, you can't truly balance a four cylinder engine, you can get it close, but never a true balance. that's why most modern four cylinder engines have balance shafts or have weights on the cam shafts. If you stroke the cranks shaft, you will be amplify the harmonics issue, making a shaky engine shake a bit more. The stock harmonic balancer doesn't do much, with the magnets in it to make the charging system, it doesn't do much for harmonics. I know you are ditching the stock charging system(good idea), I'd try to find a true balancer for the crank(fluid dampener, tci rattler, etc...). The aluminum head is a great idea, I'd go with a good composition head gasket rated for aluminum heads and replace the head bolts with studs. You should be fine with it. I wouldn't over complicate this thing, you've got a good head, run some good rocker arms(the stock ones are horrible), put the external alternator on it, and don't worry about the electric water pump. I think you will be suprised how well it will run like this

Spares whatdo you think--do i use the head gasket that came in my Victor rienz kit or go for a gen merc gasket---alot of guys on the hamb forum said most head gaskets failed due to engines being overheated and abused

the compression ration on my engine with flats will be 9.4 - 1 not to high should be ok with pump fuel i was working it ot wrong by using the 460 stroke when the 3,7 is lower

460 = 3.85
224 = 3.75

You should be fine with the Victor head gasket, 9.4 will be OK especially with the aluminum head, run around 5 degrees initial with 87 octane(R+M/2), top out around 28 degrees to begin with, you can go higher, just try it slow to begin with
