I'm sure it works differently for different types of scum but Attwoods Hull Cleaner that they sell in Walmart works awesome on my Raritan Bay scum....spray it on and rinse it off with no scrubbing.

Aluminum Brightener, sold in various brands works well. Highly acidic though so don't get it on the trailer. Spray on and rinse off.

Toilet bowl cleaner, like Sno Bowl, is good. Be careful though as it contains Hydo. Acid. I typically put it on in 5' sections at a time count to 10, then wipe/spray off.
Works great at removing slime......and gel coat if left on too long.......

If none of the other suggestions work, try On & Off...don't breathe it or you'll wish you hadn't...but it'll clean the boat...

X2... That stuff will eat the chrome off a Caddy's bumper... but it works better than anything else I've ever used.

I like Bar Keepers Friend. It is a mild acid cleaner that will not eat the galvanize off of your trailor but still is strong enough to take off most of the organic stains ( leaf marks, water line, fish guts, etc ). Seems to be a whole lot easier on wax job than most hull cleaners.
