Looking for a fishing report from the north gulf of mexico. Since the oil spill shut us down last year all reports are that the fishing was to be great. I've only heard one report locally and it was good, but I'd love more info.

I went out last tuesday and plan to go again this coming tuesday. We caught a bunch of mingos on natural bottom. We caught quite a few red snapper but only one was over 16". We went out about 18 miles just fishing the public reefs. THe weather was getting concerning so we didn't go out any further. Plus all we had for bait was squid. I believe with live pinfish we could've caught some larger snapper.

Tons of the "endangered" snapper coming in over my way...big ones are the norm. I quit when it went from 6 to 4 per person. I sure aint going out for 2.
Good luck!

We were out at the short rigs last Saturday and limited out on reds in 30 minutes. Smallest was about 20 inches. Also put a couple of gag grouper and bull reds on the boat. Then limited on specs on the way in.
The Gulf is good. |
