Default Spring has sprung in RI

Flowers are blooming, and we hit 92 degrees last week!

and with spring comes spring 'cleaning'

Heading into year two with my V, I've gotten my first real look around things now as I bought it in the water and took a chance what was below water level was ok (for the most part it was/is)

First projects this year are:

Teak. I don't think it's ever been touched in it's 31 years. Here's some pix:

Here's a before/ after look. From bottom up is:
  • As removed from the boat
  • Sanded
  • Cleaned with teak cleaner
  • Sealed with Cetol
That's an untouched cuddy hatch rail at the top too.

Used Cetol natural which I'm very happy with.

Also got the bottom sanded and painted and zincs replace, my marina does as part of storage. Glad they did it, was a barnicle utopia under there!

And got the bow eye and bow repaired and replaced. PO had run it into the dock and broke the bow eye off. luckily is was pretty rusted, so it bent more than broke the fiberglass. New one in now, so when I do trailer it I won't be worried about pulling it out of the hull.

Actual pictures of the v forthcoming

Nice post, but unfortunately, nothing but red x's. Looks like when I tried to post pix! Haven't tried since!

Nice job, did you sand them down first?

Yes, sanded, cleaned with Teak cleaner first, then 3 coats of Cetol Natural. I'm very happy with the results. Now the power washing of the boat comes next before re-applying.

PO was a big fan of 5200, and it's all over the boat, he'd even re-attached some of teh teak when it had gotten pulled off around the rod boxes... So a good amount of sanding/grinding yet to come

You are going to like that cetol. It will last for many years on areas you cover up from the sun. Even in the areas exposed to sun you will get a couple years out of it. Nice thing is that after a year or two, you can sand it down with attention to the scuffs and scratches, hit it with another 2 coats or so, and it will stay looking nice.
