| Tach not working

I need to get my tach working. Will an automotive tach work? How is it hooked up, on the power packs? I have a Johnson 150, it's an '82.

I'm getting power to the guage. I still need to check the gray wire that goes from the guage to the ignition on the motor.

the tach comes from the rectifier and is connected to the gray wire on there. common on OMC stuff and no a car tach will not work. does that motor have oil injection if so don't run it as the oil injection is controlled by the tach output on the OMC stuff

Don't think its injected. I don't have an oil tank on the motor, straight mix.
