Default Just how big is Wal-Mart

It has been said that the new Super Wal-Mart in Adair Co. has to pull in $50,000.00 a day to survive....in a county of 16,000 people.
It has been said to have averaged $190,000.00 per day since opening on 10/29!!!!

Make sure you read to the end.

HOW BIG IS WAL-MART?

1. At Wal-Mart, Americans spend $36,000,000 every hour of every day.

2. This works out to $20,928 profit every minute!

3. Wal-Mart will sell more from January 1 to St.Patrick's Day (March 17th), than Target sells all year.

4. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target + Sears + Costco + K-Mart combined.

5. Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million people and is the largest private employer.

6. Wal-Mart is the largest company in the history of the World.

7. Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger & Safeway combined, and keep in mind they did this in only 15 years.

8. During this same period, 31 Supermarket chains sought bankruptcy (including Winn-Dixie).

9. Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world.

10. Wal-Mart has approx 3,900 stores in the USA of which 1,906 are Super Centers; This is 1,000 more than it had 5 years ago.

11. This year, 7.2 billion different purchasing experiences will occur at a Wal-Mart store.
(Earth's population is approximately 6.5 billion.)

12. 90% of all Americans live within 15 miles of a Wal-Mart.

13. Let Wal Mart bail out Wall Street.....

Why bailout failing a failing business in the first place? If it makes sense to throw a lifeline to GM then why not Winn-Dixie, your local hardware store, or the guy with a hot dog cart?

Walmart is sucessful because it controls it's costs and it knows exactly what cost every aspect of it's business has. From labor down to the cost of a cardboard box. This is something that got away from the US auto makers and can't be fixed by throwing more money at it.

Totally off the point random thought: Have you seen the Disney movie Wall-E? My family now refers to Walmart as Buy-N-Large.

Walmart is anti worker not just anti union. They also have driven US companies out of the US by dictating what prices they want. I not a Walfart customer. By elimating good paying jobs people are forced to go to Wal fart. Billy Mac

I used to think like you MAC in regards to WAL-MART, but then I stopped and started thinking about it in depth. WAL-MART just simply said they wanted a product for a certain price to keep buyers buying. People could have simply said they wanted US made goods and not bought the imports, but AMERICANS cared more about lower prices than AMERICAN jobs. The other MAJOR issue here is that MANY AMERICANS feel that they are worth MORE than they really are. This also goes back to the automakers and MOST of the other industry out there. The AMERICAN dream is novel and such, but why do people feel that they should get $10 an hour to flip burgers? Or get $30 to work on an assembly line doing nothing but pushing a button? If wages fit work performed, then our industry would have NEVER left? WAL-MARTS rise was simply due to peoples desires. It may not have been all of the peoples actions that caused this, but it was simply the drive of many that brought it about.

Ferm why do you think people from all over the world want to come and live in the USA, because our wages are regressing? I don't think so. You are right Americans don't care if they buy American made products they just want it at a lower cost. That's where Wal-Fart took the lead. What I don't like what they are doing is telling US companies they have to sell at Wal-Fart's price. Because they are so large US companies were forced by an American company to go overseas. Rubbermaid in Ohio is one such company. Billy Mac

My point is simply that WAL-MART told them to lower there prices because that is what it took to lead in the marketplace. RUBBERMAID could have said no, and then sold there goods for what it costs them to build them. How is it WAL-MARTS fault that RUBBERMAID couldn't compete? If they wanted to compete they should have told there workers either work for X amount and HAVE a paycheck, or you can demand Y amount and have NO wages because WAL-MART will not buy our products? It wasn't that long ago that work was being farmed out to us because we had the cheaper wages and other countries wanted lower prices. I am a firm believer that history repeats itself, and the majority of mankind is destined to fail because it won't learn from it's mistakes. This holds true in ALL industries, not just WAL-MART. WAL-MART is just simply the giant right now. History will show that WAL-MARTS story is nothing new.

I know that my view on this subject isn't that of many, but it is just simply my opinion and view of how I see it.

That must be the new American thing, you go into your bosses office and ask for a pay cut. Oh heck we could go on and on. Sam Walton would roll over in his grave to see his company now. I leave at I will try my best to stay out of Wal - fart whenever possible. I only say when ever because this spring on a fishing trip to Ohio I had to follow my partners in to get an Ohio fishing licence. Billy Mac
