I say in the mid 20's If not going far you should be fine, but it is under powered for sure!
Welcome to the cult!

I had a friend with that same combo. Best it would do after much re-propping was 28 mph

Well, I have mentioned before and will again.....not a Merc but 1999 Johnson 115 on an Armstrong bracket pushes me up to 35 mph if conditions are right. 33 if they are not. I cruise around 23/24 mph usually.

wow that is slow as the month of december, not surprising from the tower of power. like the above mentioned its amazing how technology has come along. if i were you i would pawn off the tower of power for a newer engine when you can. |

you are right about that....what is a great thing that actually occured and it was a light under the outboard mfg's a@@ was when the emmision regulations standards started to get tough around 97 ish. at that time people were all saying who cares if this new fancy fuel injection engine gets twice the fuel and oil economy because fuel is 1.75 a gal . so most people kept on running the old carb's or bought new carbed becuase of price. well now its 2008 and fuel is finding its way to 4.00 gal and guess what except for the initial 1k or 2k more for the new engines your fuel consumption is about the same as it was in 97 with a carb engine. that is the only thing that the boating industry has done together collectively and it wasnt even them that did it. it was the govt, talk about the irony there.

I had a 1984 115 Merc on a 19 foot centerconsole, it pushed it 43 mph. I'd say you should get 33 to 36 mph on a V-20. It was the best 2 stroke motor I've ever had, you could just look at the key and it would start.
You are talking about the old inline 6 115 Merc right? The newer inline 4 115 Mercs will never compare to the old ones.
