| Bow Rail Shine

My 82 is getting new SS fittings for the bow rail. I thought shining up the rail itself would be a snap. But have had no luck - it's not pitted just dull or maybe an etched, whiteish look. Any ideas or experience is appreciated. Same with the wind shield frame. Need some aluminum majic.

steel wool and vinegar works good on some stuff i found but steel wool and mothers wheel polish works good too i've used it on all types even motorcycle frames it works wonders on them. i'd try it on an area not seen to much first though. Good Luck

Try Nevr Dull. It comes in a blue can and is a soaked cotton material. Works great on the rail and any chrome surface. It didn't work to well on the windshield frame for me - but should definitely work on the bow rail.

DOING THE SAME THING WITH MY BOW RAIL, NEVER DULL DIDN'T WORK, EVEN USED A BUFFING WHEEL CHUCKED IN A DRILL PRESS WITH BUFFING COMPOUND TO LIMITED SUCCESS. GONNA TRY EXTREMLEY FINE STEEL WOOL NEXT.

Well Wise Guy...there's FOUR different solutions to the bow-rail problem...now the problem is which to try first!!... ::)... And the windshield frame...dismantle and PAINT or have E-Coated...black or med-drk gray... ;) ;D...of course MHO...

Tried steelwool, bartenders friend, brasso, a little 600 paper on a inobvious spot, and anything I could think of. Do you think it was chrome plated and that the plating is gone? I see the shine in the area that was under the old fittings. I really thought this would be a simple quick shine deal. Hmmm - sure I have many other suprises!! RP - So what do you think is involved in painting that? Special prep/special paint?

Also, I've got pic's to post and a gallery request in. Is the only way, to open a photobucket account and transfer them there and back out? That seems to be the deal as is wrighten in the 'how to' section. Pete

Wise Guy, do you know the abrasive cloth I's tryin' to think of above?...if it were me(and I need to do this w/ mine) I'd use that stuff and elbow grease then clean w/ acetone THOROUGHLY then good quality metal primer(let cure) then 3 coats of finish color...of course make sure your choice of primer and finish are compatable...Krylon would probably be what I'd use...unless you got a way to spray an automotive or etching paint...good luck w/ it post some photos of your progress...sos we can WATCH!!!...we like to watch... ::)...
