Been there, done that....yall missed it....I think.

Here is the story in case yall missed it.

I hunted the last 4 days of season. I had waited on this since the begining of October. It was now late January and the rut was in full swing. I has saved some vacation time all winter just for this occasion. I had seen quite a few deer and killed several does before now, but I knew that this was the best time for a "Freak Nasty" to emerge.

I hunted on Saturday evening and seen a few does as well as some none shooter bucks. I could tell the rut was on from the activity but didn't see a shooter up untill now. I had seen several nice deer...(this one included)

I passed em up hoping for a better deer. Nightfall came and we hit the sack. We had cold temps and perfect conditions for the rut to continue on just as we had hoped for. We woke up the following morning and hit the field at O dark thirty. I had high hopes for this stand as the last two bucks hanging on my wall came from here.

I was sitting along a long power line with planted pines bordering the wood line behind my stand. I watched down that line and seen several bucks cross chasing does. The activity was great. I passed a few small deer and even a decent 8 pointer as well. At about 0700 a doe pop out and then HIM...I seen ONE side of his left main beam and said to myself "oh shet, thats a shooter!" I had seen several good bucks this year but none that gave me (the shake), but oh how he did!

He went back in the thicket before I got a shot. Just seconds later a doe stepped out and ran across right in front of him....he didn't budge, but I KNEW he was in there.....I thought he was lost forever and I would never see him again.

I sat another 30 minutes before two more does ran across between he and I and made it across the power line. He seen them and came RUNNING like he was on a string! I had my grunt call in my mouth ready to TRY and stop him but I wasnt sure it would work.

He looked like a cartoon Bullwinkle running up the power line! He was over 325 yards away and closing fast. He ran until he reached the point that they went across at and then he stopped to look...slightly quartering towards me. I settled my cross hairs @ 235 yards and the 7mag Encore rang off before I knew it. He ran into the thicket and tumbled (I thought). I let him lay for over an hour before I searched. It killed me to wait, but I knew he was hit good and I knew it would be worth it. My partner and I started the search with a good blood trail and found him shortly thereafter...the rest is history!

Thanks for letting me indulge you fellows with my little story...I think about it everyday.

Aged at 3.5 (extremely good genetics for that age)

Weight 185 and scored 127.

18" inside spread with 10.5 and 11.5" G2's

Definitely my best yet!

I cant wait to see him on the wall. Its definitely a deer of a lifetime in Bama.....
