Default Removing Tilt & trim unit

I am in the prosses of removing the power tilt and trim unit from my boat!
The motor on the unit is rusted all to heck!! And I want to get it cleaned up before it rots thur.

I have it all lose and just sitting there, but it doesn't come out, just not anough room! >:(

I took the book out and it says to remove engin from boat :o then to remove the starbord but on the clamp bracket, and then spread the clamp bracket ever so slighty and it will come out.

BULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have to get a spreader or something to make it spread!! I have all apart, I did not remove the motor as you don't have to!! All you need to do is remove starboard side clamp bracket.
Of coarse that leaves the weight of the motor on the one side! ::) LOOK OUT BELOW!!

I think the sterring tube is rusted into the clamp not allowing it to move?? I sprayed it to day and let it sit till tomorow till I figure out another way??

Now the problem is that it isn't getting over 30* tomorrow with a 20 to 35 mile wind!! Talk about freezing you you no whats off! There was ice on the bracket today when I was working on it!

Gee if I only had a friend that was a machinest that this kind of stuff all the time, to help me ???

just letting you guys no what I am doing!! The never ending saga!!

MJ,

*I have replaced many of those pumps. *They can be a real b*tch. >:( *The rust is most certainly your prob. *Douche that sucker with some good penetrant, let it sit, and it should break lose with some persuasion(HAMMER). *I have even had to heat them up a little with a torch. 8)

Good luck,

C.

P.S. *Your cold *** weather has made it down south, so don't feel bad. *It's freezin here too. :o

well I got the unit off!! Nothing a 3 pound hammer and a coal chisle couldn't handle!! *;D

But now I have to get a new trim sender unit. It was not working, so I thought If i took it off and soaked it I could unfreeze it?? But the ears with the screws in it broke *>:( so now it don't work and the ears are broke.

I have looked all over the net and can't seem to find one?? I hate to go to the dealer here as they screw you as much as they can!!

I guess i will have to keep looking

later
