Just thought I would fly in the face of tradition and put a post where it belongs ;).
Very nice pics, Chumbucket. I can't get over how fresh those seat covers are. Are they really original, because they sure don't look it. Mine are blistered from 9 years of being docked in the sun. I like the split bow rail. You already have split bow lights, why not an anchor roller/pulpit? You need a kicker motor. No discussion. Not negotiable. |

Thanks Seakindly. Yeah, the cushions are original. The previous owner took very good care of this boat. He fished it once in a while, but I think it was more of a family boat. I thought about the anchor roller setup for the bow but decided against it. With the center console and low split rails, it's so easy to work the anchor to begin with, it's really not necessary. Also, when I launch and load the boat off the trailer, I step up onto the winch post and over the bow. Makes things real simple and nothing in the way to bark up my shins.
I decided against a kicker because of expense and the style fishing I do mostly. My previous boat (22' Grady-White W/A) had the kicker motor and downriggers. I used them for some time but eventually got away from that style fishing. Now if I want to troll, I'll use wire line or lead core to get my rigs down. It's very rocky in a lot of the areas I fish in and the downriggers were always getting hung up. As far as safety is concerned, I don't venture too far offshore anymore and I have all the safety equipment on board to call for help. Thanks again man. 8)

CB, please reconsider the lowly kicker. Downriggers be damned. You are drifting in wind and current for stripers near rocks. you are getting closer and closer to the rocks. It is time to start up the motor and end the drift. The motor won't start :o! What do you do ?????? CALL FOR HELP :-X? Throw out an anchor and pray :-/? Keep turning the key until the bitter end >:(? ABANDON SHIP :o? Walk over to your kicker and pull the cord 8)?

I just don't shut off the motor when I get in real tight. Just ask MJ. I let it idle and make the drift, then just reposition every so often.

Seakindly, you forgot one option on what to do when you're headed for the rocks! Just hit them! When I was drifting toward the rocks of a jetty one night this summer and my Sea Drive wouldn't start, I HIT the rocks and then got out and stood on them to fend the boat off until my buddy got the damn motor started! Much cheaper than a kicker ;).
