HEY SPARE..... HELP!!!!! and others

so the prop that was on the boat was a little banged up. i spoke to the guy and he got me a replacement prop. i drove up there today and to my surprise, he had a brand new (aluminum) prop waiting for me. well, my surprise quickly turned to despair when i went to install the new prop. so everything was perfect. i popped off the big washer at the base of the prop shaft, cleaned it up, greased it and put it back on. i slid the prop on the shaft, and...... BOOM!!!!! fit like a glove. excellent! so i cleaned and greased everything else and started to screw the castle nut onto the shaft. well, i screwed it all the way down to the taper and soon discovered the prop hub was shorter than the original. so now, not only will the prop play on the shaft a good 3/8", but the castle nut screws down past the cotter pin hole, so when installing the pin, it will be above the nut and do basically nothing.
now i'm assuming there is some type of shaft washer to either washer it up from the bottom, or washer it down from the top. what are my options here, and which is the way to go?

Not that familiar with Yamaha
Do they have a thrust washer, if so, is it still attached to the original prop
Are the prop hubs the same depth

reused the original thrust washer. that's the problem. the hubs are two different depths. i believe i found the part. only problem, i see three different part numbers interchanged with three different parts.

45997-02
i see these 3 numbers with 3 different washers. then i see them swapped on another site, and swapped again on another.
it's not a price issue. i just don't want to have to do this more than once.

Are they different brand props?

there should be a thick brass washer before the nut, look on the old prop, its probably stuck flush and looks like part of the prop, sometimes they are stainless

Yeah, the thrust washer is there. It looks like the prop that was on there was the wrong size. After some research, it looks like there’s a spacer and a flat washer that goes on top of the stack right under the castle nut. Using the prop with the wrong hub depth, they eliminated the original spacer and washer.
So I’m gonna get the parts off eBay and see what it’ll take to fix the prop. I’d love to get a stainless and keep the aluminum as a spare, but the boss doesn’t want to hear about more expense right now.

wasnt talking about the thrust washer, but you seemed to figure it out, see if theres a thick spacer washer on the nut end of the old prop

There is not, but this is one of the ones I just ordered. On the old prop, the hub was a good half inch higher than the new one. I’m on vacation next week. I’m gonna run the prop down to the prop guy and see what it’ll cost to bring it back. Ideally, I’d like to pop a stainless prop on there and use the new aluminum as a spare. Gotta see if the old money tree blooms in the spring.
