Default 78 center console max motor size

My 89 black max 150 2.0l grenaded few weeks back.(litteraly tons of Carnage)I bought a 94 black max 175 2.5l to repower it. What's the weight dofference.?and will my boat hold it safely? Coast guard plate is missing but my transom is solid and I'm adding a transom plate as well. My neighbor (Mr know it all retired boat mechanic) says it's too big for my boat and will mess transom up.i dont believe him but wanted to confirm its safety on here.any input is greatly appreciated

Isn t that the same block as the 200 s. Lots of those running around. I m assuming they are both the same shaft length

No to put salt on the wound, but i bet that sounded pretty impressive when it cut loose

Yea. It didn't feel right. Had an intermitant noise. I took the cowl off and was running it in the Chesapeake Bay .then it started knocking some kind of bad.stupid loud. I made it to the pier and the noise went away. I was like wtf.....I fre reveed it and it sounded great and ran great no noise....I free reved it again and boom!!! It was stupid loud metal went every where. I dove down to floor. My buddy got hit I. The face with something he was ok. Shot a nice fire ball out the block too.i couldn't help but laugh. Glad I made it back in.

Cool

Sorry it happened. :( Glad you made it to the pier when it did let go. There are a lot of people running these boats with 200HP engines. In fact, while I cannot speak for every engine made by every maker, I do know that most times the difference between a 150, a 175 and a 200 was purely a matter of the carbs that were on the engine. The blocks were all the same. I invite "Mr. know it all boat mechanic" to come look at my boat with it's nice shiny 1993 200 HP Merc engine that's been on her since I got her several years ago. Depending on the year, these boats are rated for up to 225 hp. As long as your transom is solid you should be fine with a 200.

Thank you. I know about the HP differences through carbs etc... The 175 is a 2.5L and the 150 was a 2.0 block .that makes me feel better abiut bigger engines . Hmmmmmm maybe I can go with twin screws next time
