V21 model comment thread

I believe all V21 production models are essentially the same, so in case anyone interested, started this comment thread. Other V21 owners comments, etc appreciated..........

1. Outer edge transom well aluminum trim.....
V21's I've seen ( mine included) this 90 degree trim plate that curves around the well doesn't fit well. There's a gap on the underside. I had removed the caulk from previous owner, lightly sanded, taped, and re did with 5200 to form a clean barrier line.

2. Port side transom storage section ( oil tank )
From spray, washing boat etc, I find water can accumulate in this storage section, around base of oil tank. Previous owner had drilled hole in base, I suppose believing water would then drip down into the bilge area. WRONG - section below seems closed off. When I bought the boat, I stuck a thin tube down the hole and pumped out maybe 1/2 gallon of old water than had accumulated, then re sealed the hole.

3. Bow slider, water drip into cuddy
Per my boat pictures and previous threads, I had a bow slider cover made with a rubber flange and snaps for easy install and removal. This reduced most all water related intrusion when going through rough seas with heavy spray and rain.

4. Hull rub rail around boat
Not sure if necessary, but I taped and ran a clear silicone bead around the bottom and top edge of the rub rail. Purpose being to eliminate water than might intrude into hull.

5. Rod holders drain into hull
I capped mine and use a turkey baster to suck any accumulated water out. The rod holders drain into the hull- not desirable to accumulate into the foam, wood etc.

6. Deck access plate over fuel tank
I sealed mine used clear silicone, then remove for winter storage aeration. Again, keeping water out is a good thing....

7. Windshield hinge
The original plastic fitting inside the hinge wore out and broke, but was easy to fix by fashioning a new spacer, fitting into the same spot, and drilling in small stainless screw.

One of our members re inforced the transom well section from the inside and re did the deck so is more of a V21 expert.

My opinion, this is a good boat, but Wellcraft could have engineered it to be more water tight.
A few modifications do much to keep it in better condition. I'm a bit of a freak in this regard, keeping the boat covered year round.
