That's a great post and what a great dog. We got a rescue dog about 3 years ago, thinking we were getting a "mostly" chocolate lab. It turned out we got mostly pit bull. She' a good dog but definitely not like our two previous lab-springer spaniel mixes. Her only interest in fetching is to run after something, never to bring it back or grab it and run with it to get another dog to chase her. I never dreamed that I'd have a dog that doesn't like to swim or go in the car but Tilly isn't partial to either. She's wierd in other ways too - she doesn't experience pain like most dogs (she'd play with huge Great Danes when she was a little puppy and getting slammed around didn't bother her) but little things get her trembling (the neighbor's smoke alarm was chirping - we couldn't hear it - and got her shaking so badly that I took her to the vet). The next dog is definitely going to have more lab in it.

Great video Pipe.

Scook we got one of those too. Adopted a "lab mix" puppy from the pound and as time went on she slowly morphed into a pitbull. Turns out that a lot of rescue groups will call something a lab mix to help get the puppy adopted because most pitbull puppies, especially black ones stand no chance of getting adopted and are almost all are euthanized. Our girl Sable loves to fetch the ball. Started her first day we brought her home and hasn't stopped since. Brings it right back to you. We'll anchor off a beach to go beach combing and within minutes she'll bring you a tennis ball she's found floated up from south florida. I was indifferent on pits before her, but really like the breed now. Our next one will probably be one too. Most of the bad rap is due to crappy owners. Our boy Ranger was a retriever beagle mix and had zero interest in playing ball, loved going for rides in the truck or boat though. Sable will get nervous in the boat when it gets rough, with Ranger we could be plowing through 3-4 footers on an out going tide with black clouds and lighting strikes all around and he'd just lean up against the gunnel and enjoy the ride. We had to put him down about a month ago, one of the hardest things I've done, cried like a baby. He's on the other side though, swimming up to the next beach to wait for us.

Got one of them lab mixes to, except she's boxer and lab. Loves water so long as its a lake, river, gulf, anything with a shore she can walk into(and with webbed feet, she FLIES through the water), but a pool or bath tub and she almost goes into shock from fear. Before she got fat, er I mean lovingly feed by the kids she could jump OVER my head running and playing. When was young she would jump up and headbut the roof in our old place(7' 2" ceiling height).

Yeah Bradford - they have strong personalities and need owners who'll be the pack leaders but they're really nice dogs. The 12 year old neighbor girl absolutely loves Tilly - they're constantly sending pictures of her in bed with a leg and an arm over Tilly, both snoozing. Their lab-golden won't tolerate it.

It's really tough when you have to part with an old friend - it was close to 10 years ago when our old lab-springer came to the end and I remember it like yesterday - plenty of tears for her.

Ferm, your pup could be Tilly's twin - the brown with white blaze and the ears (not the blue ones).

Welcome to the V20 K9 club

Those lobster weren't moving much, out in the wide open too.. I wonder why my lobster never seem to be just laying there on a sandy bottom in the wide open in middle of the day. Great post either way. I just wonder if the FWC has approved the taking of lobster via K-9? LOL!

Bradford, sorry about your Ranger. I'm with you on "the other side" part. I have a few of them there, too.
