Ferry Schedule is available on line, plan ahead, it gets crowded this time of the year. Plenty to do while your there. Do a search under the off topic for outer banks and you'll see pictures from our last two trips there. I've never been during the "season" always during the cooler months. Still plenty to see an do. One bit of advise, you will do a lot of driving up and down teh banks, it takes longer than you think and burns up a lot of gas, plan accordingly. If you want to take two ferrys in one day(Ocracoke and Cedar Island for example) plan ahead and get there early. Don't forget about Currituck Light, its North of Kitty Hawk, but is nice and has plenty to do around it. If you happen to be a duck hunter, you'll like the museum. If any of the women want to go thru Rodanthe, just say OK, and don't say what movie or ask about it, you may be forced to watch it.

Never been to the Outer Banks, but I'll bet I could spend a month there easy.

Ockracoke is a very cool old town, and of course stop and see the Hatteras light house.

I would highly recomend carrying a surf rod or 5 with you.

Definitely go to Ocracoke, its my favorite place in the world! You can rent or bring bikes or golfcarts and take your time and tour all the island has to offer. Take the Walking tour and see the Ocracoke lighthouse. You can get a charter over to Portsmouth Island. Good food at Howards Pub and Pony Island Resturant and all the local resturants. Take the ferry to Hatteras and climb the Hatteras lighthouse. Ride on to Nags Head and KDH. Thers plenty to see and do. Theres piers and surf fishin, and the best food at Kill Devil Grill and Tortugas, or Awful Authers Oyster Bar and The Jolly Roger. Theres lots of tackle shops, a West Marine and souvenier shops for the wife. Ride all the way down the beach road and see everything on the oceanfront. Obey all the speed limits and laws, they're strictly enforced. The older original motels have lots to offer with easy access to the beaches. You can go to Oregon Inlet Marina in the late afternoon and watch the charter boats come in with they're catches from the Gulf Stream or charter one if you like. You can ride through the Nags Head Woods and see what the island use to look like. Plan on staying a week and you still won't see half of it!

we had a great time. we started out and went to new burn to visit a friend on his 30 foot sail boat he has be restoring. then the next morning we went to kitty hawk and saw the wright brothers museam.from there to BODIE ISLAND LIGHT HOUSE then on to CAPE HATTERAS LIGHT HOUSE. we went in the museam there then took the tour of the lighthouse. nine steps going into the lighthouse then 158 steps to the the top!!!!! great views from the top . had a 20 mph wind up there. this is the tallest lighthouse in north america!!!from there we beat feet to OCRACOKE to catch the 10 am ferry to CEDER ISLAND.when we got there at 9:30 they said the ferry had be canceled!!!!!the next one would be at 1:00 so we got to hang out in OCRACOKE for therr hrs, but we did get to go the OCRACOKE LIGHTHOUST!COUGHT THE FERRY AT 1:00 TO CEDER ISLAND. THE FERRY RIDE TOOK 2HRS 15 MIN. GOOD RIDE AND SMOOTH WATER. THEN WE DROVE TO KURE BEACH,SO ONE OF MY BUDDS COULD A OLD FRIENDS NEW BEACH HOUSE AFTER ABOUT A 45 MIN VISIT ONTO MYRTLE BEACH TO MY FRIENDS TIME SHARE(IT WAS THERE WEEK TO GO AND HAD TO DO A FEW THINGS THERE) THATS THE ONLY REASON WE WENT THERE. THEN THE NEXT DAT BACK TO LAKE WYLIE!! LONG TRIP 1096 MILES FROM START TO FINISH. I KNOW I KNOW WILL TRY TO GET PICS UP SOON .BOUGHT A NEW CAMERA FOR THE TRIP AND AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE SD CARD! ALL AND ALL WE HAD A GREAT TIME!! COULD HAVE STAYED OUT THERE LONGER.

Sounds like you had a great trip. Glad you got to see the area and had a good time. I've got a 12 day shutdown coming up this weekend. After that we plan on taking another minivacation to the beach. Can't wait!
