I was thinking about adding them to my project 20'. I'd like to hear some thoughts on them on our hulls and pics if anybody has them.

I would be concerned about making the boat track funny in the slop. It would definitely make for a quicker bow.

I had thought about doing some sort of spray rail too. But I was thinking about something maybe just below the rub rail. Or actually intigrate a spray rail and a rub rail together.

The only thing that makes my boat have a dry ride is the enclosure. Any kind of broadside wind blows the spray right back into the boat. Thats the only problem with deep vee hulls. I think a little deflector just below the rub rail would be enough to turn the water down without affecting the ride quality.

All that flare can be a blessing and a curse on smaller hulls. I can't count the times I have been completely drenched when you would think it would be dry. I already have tabs, just brainstorming now.

any boat i have been on or owned was wet in a quartering chop. the driest on i had was a 21 ft hydro-sport kevlar hull with a 235 omc on it. it was so fast it could outrun the forward spray from the bow.

I'm with GreyWolf on this one. The flare is doing the job of a spray rail. The only time you get wet is when the wind is howling from the forward quarter. Nothings gonna stop that but curtains. Sometimes when we get a SW wind in the afternoon I'll run into the beach with the wind on the rear quarter then turn south straight into to stay dry.

you are gonna get wet in a 20 footer period..... every body talks about how dry a v20 is but I just dont see it. Bluefin tuna fished on my dads for 10 years and she would throw buckets at ya. The spray rails are worth researching. I thought about doing it to mine but it just seems alot of the water that is thrown in your face is picked up off the flare right after entry and forward momentem and wind throw it right at you.

This is pretty much my thinking. I don't expect to stay completely dry in a 20' but anything that helps... If the flare is the only answer then why does every sport Fisher have spray rails as well?
