Soon to rig Evinrude 200 HO etec on my 96' V21. Replacing 96' 150hp Evinrude.
Received some suggestions ref being " too heavy" for the boat. Here's my thinking, until proven otherwise: The V21 was rated for up to 200hp, and in 1996 the Yami 200 weighed 505 lbs. The Evinrude etec 200 HO is a big 3.3 liter block, and spec weight at 524 lbs. So, will the 19lbs be too much ? I'm thinking not, plus I plan to move the battery up front, eliminating the weight differential....... Next, we know a guy on this site......runs this same 200 HO on his 88' V20. Reports no issues, even when run heavy with full fuel, 3 guys, bait well. Under heaviest conditions, plugs the floor drains and no back up. Third ...is it " too much torque" for the transom........won't know till I run it, but again I'm thinking not. Was the 96' 200 hp that close to ripping the transom off ? All questions should be answered in about 1 week give or take. I'd post a pic of the motor on a skid, but it's too much of a hassle - I just tried again..... |

Greenie, don't forget that I'm running a Merc 200 on my V21. I have had zero problems so far. Yes, I know that there's a difference in weight, but the torque issue you mentioned should not be any problem at all. These boats are rated for 200+, so I'm thinking that you'll be fine in that regard.

On my 81 V20 I was running a 200 Evinrude Ocean Pro, 455 LBS dry weight, that sat on an aluminum transom bracket (38 LBS scrap weight) via a jack plate (about 20 lbs). The bilge sat (2) 65 LB batteries. Weight was not an issue. Floor was always dry except for when I filled the livewell.
Not going to discuss top speed because never had the right prop. That will change this summer.

LOL You and I have sister ships.. thought you knew that. Remember our conversations on sealing the sliding hatch? 2.5L 1991 Mercury 200 hp...and speed varies depending on ocean or bay or lake or river.. but I've managed to hit 50+ a few times.

That's right - I lose track of who's got what boat and how it's powered. That's a lot of performance from 2.5 liters.

Empty boat, portable fuel tank(s) just out for a test on a smooth river. NOT normal by any means..
