gentlemen have a 1984 488 4 cylinder with a alpha 1 outdrive, water coming in from outdrive but unable to locate. replaced all boots still water comes in. yesterday decided to raise bow up on trailer and filled engine compartment with water, up about 8'' and water was running out of 2 holes along side of of exhaust boot. is this normal? i suspect water inlet tube on bell housing is bad. question can this motor be pulled with outdrive in place so i can inspect aft bell housing etc/ thanks! your comments greatly appreciated. richard

when you did the bellow replacement was a good time to check water inlet tube connector. but i suspect that is not the problem anyway. its with your exhaust outlet pipe that bolts to the transom plate. maybe Harry Houdini could change it out but i would remove and reinstall the motor.
