Hi all.New to this site. I was recently given a 1974 V20 Cuddy I/O. Not knowing anything about this boat I looked it up on line, and found my way here. Im looking for any info I can get about these boats as until I saw this one I had never heard of one. I dont have it home yet but am picking it up tomorrow. I dont even know what it looks like other then the brief glimpse I got of it in the shed its in. I have been out of boating for a while but had wanted another boat so when it was offered I said yes figuring it had to be better then nothing (hadnt even seen it then and didnt even know what it was). Any info would be awesome!

Welcome aboard. When you get the boat and maybe post pictures, there will be a lot of help available to you here. Nobody knows V20's like the great people on this forum. You hit the jackpot. You should also post where you are from.

OMG, Run Forest Run.
Just kidding, welcome to the site. My center console was a freebie. Spent the better part of 5 solid years working on it after hours and on weekends. Started with a rotten floor due to bonehead seat installation, turned into a major glass project making it a full transom and customizing the seat and console along the way. To finish it up it took me another 5 years of paint and rigging paying as I went along so I don't owe anything on it. (Thank Goodness) Owned two larger boats during my rebuild process.(One of which I still have) Probably got $20K in it, I went kinda overboard with mine but I must say It was Worth It. ![]() As I understand it the boat was: used by Navy Seals in the Bay of Pigs/designed by naval architect Raymond Hunt with the big bow flare and lifting strakes that make the boat perform very well. They are: durable/economical/plentiful because they were in production for so long/good handling and functional. We love pictures, I hope you find a diamond in the rough. Too Strong?? Did I reveal my sickness? |

Sorry didnt have a chance to complete my profile. Im from Killington Vermont. The boat was given to me by a person on my plow route who is no longer able to use it and wanted it to go to someone who would enjoy it. Im picking it up tomorrow and will post some pictures as soon as I can. Like I said I havent even really had a chance to look it over but it seemed pretty good from what I was able to see. Im sure I will have more questions once im able to figure out what ive got

Hi PM.
Welcome to the site. My first V20 was an I/O 74 way back when... They're great boats that handle the water better than boats twice their size. Roomy and reliable... a little lean on creature comforts but rugged as all get out. I think you hit the jackpot. ![]() D

so got some more info from the person who gave it to me. The motor is an inline 6 chevy. He had a cracked cylinder so he got a new (used) block and had it bored and oversized pistons put in said it runs good but has the original mechanical advance distributer and he mentioned that I might want to replace it at some point with an electrical one. also the original mercruiser outdrive had some issues with the drive shaft so he switched it for a newer alpha one 3.0 unit. It definetly needs some cleaning and some tlc which he was in the middle of doing but has gotten sick and can no longer do. Bonuses that I found apon opening it up where Loran depth finder/ fish finder. fairly nice marine radio. newer canvas top and misc, gear anchors rope etc. the big bonus was when i opened one of the wells up and found two like new penn down riggers. checked the floor and it seemed solid everywhere i walked, and the transom also seemed to be solid from what i could tell. deffinetly need to pull all the teak and sand it and stain. want to replace the captains chair and sand and paint from the rub rail up
