I need some advice. I love the lines of the Wellcraft V20. I want to know everyones personal expiereances fishing a v20 on the chesapeake bay. Most of my fishing will be at the hampton roads bridge tunnel and chesapeake bay bridge tunnel. Do I need a larger boat? What are your thoughts? Thanks everyone?

It's an awesome boat for that area, I had many years personal experience fishing the bay right where you want to fish. Go for it!

I don't know diddly about that area, but I can tell you that generally speaking, the V20 is one of the best boats for it's size that's ever been built. It's a good rough weather/water boat, but like any other 20' boat, you're not going to want to be out in 5 foot waves. Always use caution and keep your weather radio on at all times.

Lived in the area for several years. Now that I own a V20, I can say you will have no problem. Used to go out 20 miles plus looking for and catching big blues and stripers.
Around the Bay Bridge caught lots of Tautog and flounder. make sure you have a throw away anchor if fishing for Togs as they are caught in the rock piles surrounding the tunnels. Also look for big drum in the cabbage patch if it still there. most of the larger flounder I used to catch was done drifting through the bridge on the north side of the 2nd tunnel. I remember lots of great fishing in that area. never did much around the Hampton bridge, but that was years ago. |

I have a I/O V20 and fish Chesapeake bay and Oregon Inlet a lot. I have taken mine 35mi offshore and down fine with it. Pick your days with the weather. I love mine.

I'm on my second V20 and have fished the mouth of the Bay, CBBT and nearby ocean for over 30 years. As Destroyer said, the V20 is one of the best hulls ever made in this size boat. Keep an eye on the weather, like in all small boats, and you'll have no problems.

Like the other guys said, the V20 is the perfect boat for that area. My first ride on my buddys V20 was fishing for spade fish at the Chesapeake Light Tower, it was great. I knew it was exactly what I wanted in a boat. I bought my V about 6 months later. I had to replace the transom, trailer and rebuild the engine, gimble and the outdrive but it was well worth the time and money. I now have a dependable, seaworthy, classic boat that turns heads wherever I take it! I love mine!
