Default My First Boat

Upon trying another fishing season on overcrowded beach at the North End of Carolina Beach NC . I began my search for my first boat. After much searching I ended up with a 1979 Wellcraft v20 step with a 1997 150 fast Strike Johnson . Of course there was a lot more work then I had planned on. A friend of mine steped up to help me and we began my first project boat. He guided me to this websight and the forum here became a wealth of info. The person I got the boat from was running from external fuel tanks because of water problems. Upon reading here about the ethenal problems we decided to drain the tank. There as a LOT of water in the tank so we left it air out a few weeks while we worked on other repaires. We then added Startron tank cleaner with fuel. The next big problem was that it would have spark on day and next day none. Upon reading in the forums here I delivered the boat to my closest boat repair shop to have it serviced. I had no idea how long since this boat had been in the water or serviced. I had them replace the power pack and censoras suggested in the forums. They also found a shifting problems while doing a complete service on the motor. I picked up the boat a week later with a lot less cash in my pocket. My daughter and son jumped in to help and things began to come together. My daughter and my son removed the old battered decals . After searching for best deal i found www.decals-by-jt.com This was best price for what i was looking for . Also { which i thought was great } if you send them a picture of your boat they can show you what graphics will look like on your boat. VERY cool. I plan on getting a large graphic as soon as I decied on name and graphic. LOT to choose from . check out my picture album http://www.wellcraftv20.com/community/album.php?u=1607 I hope that correct link . I will be adding more pictures as things progress. Any and all advice welcome / Ken / Carolina beach

Welcome to the site!!

Boat looks great! But after looking at the tank I think I would clean the area and have it pressure tested before you go to far with it.
You don't want to fill it and find you have a issues. Also while you have it all opened up, change all your hoses as I am sure they are old and this new gas will eat them up for sure.

Good Luck and keep us updated!

Default Gas Lines

Thanks for the heads up MacoJoe. I failed to mention we did replace the gas lines. We tried to think of everything before closing the tank.. In the future I may replace with a Plastic Tank..We will wait and see how what it proforms. Wish us luck

That's why I mentioned pressure test it is a bear of a job to get the tanks out!! So while it was open might as well ck all. But getting to the tank is the easy part any way
