| Rescued a V20, can we ID it?

I have acquired a V20 with a split windshield. It has no hull ID on the transom and was purchased at an auction, has "DONATION -1973" and some numbers on the windshield. I think it was one of those things where two buddies bought it thinking what a cool project it was and had visions of anchoring up on a sandbar with some babes. Then they got it home, the beer buzz wore off and the wives had other ideas of how the menfolk would spend this spare time. Hence one of the buddies dropped out of the deal and buddy #2 who's yard it was in decided it needed a new home. I showed up with a buddy and a Bronco, hooked 'er up and down the road we went. Most of the leaves blew out in the first mile or two. The metal tag by the helm lists a serial of V320327. I suspect the boat was manufactured prior to '73 and the standardization of the federal hull ID. Has the large, plastic V with the 20 inside it emblems on each side by the windshield and the large Wellcraft plastic emblems on each side of the hull by the stern An outboard model, she has the requisite rotten transom core, likely has waterlogged foam under the decks, and would need to be split to repair, I am familiar with the process. Did a '69 Glasspar some years back. It has good looking aluminum saddle tanks, the railings and hardware are complete. It is on a very good and solid Long brand single axle galvanized trailer. I have bills of sale for both. I'd like to narrow down a year on this thing. I will likely put her up on these classifieds to find her a good home, not interested in the least in parting it out- too much to cut up with the chainsaw! Basically I know the trailer is worth more than the boat, so if you want the stretcher one must take the body with. |

Here are some pics- she's pretty dirty, I planned on scrubbing her down today and getting the leaves out of the inside but I got involved in replacing the axle and springs on the trailer for my Glasspar. She looks just like the V20 in the '73 brochure- it had an inline Merc on it as the front panel is inside the boat, it has a MerControl and I can see the clamp marks on the inside of the motorwell cap. The deck is solid! I jumped up and down on it. Been around enough rotten decks to know one when I step on it. Transom is mush though. The trailer does not look like it's known salt water- springs have only light surface rust. The tires are in need of replacement and I'd re pack the wheel bearings before it went anywhere. It has an electric winch, the plug looks rusty and I have not out power to it. PM sent Bradford! |

The gel coat on this boat looks 100% original- looks like the remains of some dealer decal on the upper right corner of the transom. The seller also has a car lot, I got a bill of sale left blank as far as the buyer's name and boat info that has been notarized- one for the trailer and one for the boat- somone wants it soon they can just fill that out as if they bought it directly. If not I will get it all in my name. Georgia does not title trailers under such and such gross wieght (10,000 maybe?) and does not title boats. It did say "1973 DONATION" with a number that I suspect was the auction or item number on the stbd windshield- I think it's a '71 or '72 based on the lack of a hull ID and the Wellcraft number stamped on the metal tag by the helm. |

Yes, they are South Carolina and I have no way to reference them. If the seller I got it from got it on an auction it should be legit- what he gave me will allow me to get it registered in Georgia.

DANG!!...I just threw out the numbers you need to get that info...GOOGLE up SCDNR, get the boat registration phone number...call them and see if they can give you the info...ask them to at least give you SC county of most recent registration...they may also have the phone number for the county tax office...THEY'LL tell ya EVERYTHING!!
