Control box for a 1994 60 evinrude?

I got a side mount control box with this 1994 Evinrude 60. IT is not in the best shape in the world, and the cables are super too long. Any suggestions? IS there a way to upgrade to a new box with an older engine? Any to get shorter cables? If they weren't so long i'd just loop them up, but i'm gonna have about 8ft. of extra cable... Thanks guys.
