Default Gonna get a new prop

I dinged my prop the last time I was out and was originally going to just get it repaired, but I think it would be better to get a new one and keep the old as a spare.

The one I had looks like it is a mercruiser 48-78118, which according to a chart posted here awhile back is a 14.5 with 17pitch and that looks like a good fit for my boat via some other threads here as well.

As I have time to shop for the best deal, I see that Michigan Wheel makes a replacement (031024) that I could consider.

What do you all think about Michigan wheel props and would I also need to get a new hub kit if I went with one of them?

I am thinking I will stick with aluminum...

Thanks,

rkc

If going with luminum, then MICHIGAN WHEEL is the way to go. There aluminum castings are some of the best I've ever seen for strength and being able to rebuild them later. I've run MERCURY, OMC, SUZUKI, and some others, but none of them can take a hit like a MICHIGAN WHEEL and keep going.

Thanks Ferm,

Looks like it already has a pressed in hub.

I am tempted to "buy it now", but since it's a long way till spring I'll take my chances and try to get it cheaper.

RKC - I've got a 74 V20 Cuddy with a 1989 3.7L (165hp) motor. I bought the boat in the fall and haven't had her overboard yet, and am anxious to see how well it performs. Since your rig is similar to mine performance-wise, was wondering if you could tell me what your top top end, cruise speed, and fuel consumption for both are?

Also, since I'm up in your neck of the woods (NH).....could you tell me who I'd have to whack to become a Northern Mafia member?

Welcome to this site yodaddy, I am also relatively new to the site and my boat. I just got it last fall and had it out 3 times. Can't really say what the top speed was, fuel consumption etc except that it certianly went fast enough for me on Buzzarsds bay and it appears it is very good at fuel consumption. I think you will be very satisfied with the performance.

Not sure if we have NH member other than you, so you may be all set.

Thanks for the response and welcome. My 3.7L is a low hour motor (<200hrs) I'm pulling out of a Larson I bought for the motor. It pushed the Larson at 47mph on the GPS, so am hoping I can get near 40 mph on the V20. We'll be fishing offshore in the V this year, and it'll be nice to have some get up and go should we ever need it.

I've read just about everything available on this site, and if I recall correctly, you had posted that you were thinking of hitting Stellwagon Bank some time in the future. My brother and I are going to fish Stellwagon for tuna this year, perhaps we could meet up out there sometime.
