| Quick Fishing/Hunting Report - Fort Fisher NC 5/24/09

I didn't really fish much because I was walking around hunting fossilized shark teeth. That place is covered up with em! They are mainly the black ones. Color has to do with what type of minerals they get fossilized with. I did some research and the fossilized shark teeth on the NC coast are said to be millions of years old. Identifying the type of shark can be done but difficult because species were in transitional phases over the different periods. Between me and my daughters we found probably 100, mostly broken but some fine specimens ups to an inch long or so. Ok that was the hunting report now on to the fishing report. I barely fished, but the wife did grab a rod and try her hand. I was out looking around on the beach and I looked up and here comes Mrs. Blue with a big old black drum probably pushing 3 lbs. I'm like wow! My 9 y.o. daughter was there and began protesting the sport of fishing before breaking down in tears over the fate of this lone black drum. All the while my brother in law is talking about how good it is going to taste with those leftover shrimp he has. So, at the risk of disapointing the brother in law and to appease my daughter I revived the fish and sent him back home. She ended up catching another equally big black drum and 2 sheepshead. I got a pic of one of the drum but I'm gonna have to photoshop some things out. I know how you pervs are on this site...and so does Hammer.

My wife and I used to hunt for sharks teeth all the time when I used to live in Myrtle Beach, lots of fun. My daughter is 10 and I would have let the fish go as well.

Oh and by the way, Willy & Tsub my main field got turned over 2 weeks ago and we've had some decent downpours so I've started hunting the artifacts hot and heavy. I found a REEL nice tomahawk about 5 inches 2 days ago as I marched through the mud. Also found 4 broken triangular points and of course several pottery shards. I got a pic of the tomahawk as it was found, mostly laying on the top of the ground. Man I love the thrill of the hunt! Also talked to a guy here at work who said he would hook me up on permission to hunt some tobacco fields in the northern part of the state. Quite a drive for me though so I don't know if I'll do it or not. For now I have my hands full looking over this 20 acre field. The part I've looked in so far is the most dense as far as artifacts and debitage but theres another rather large area that is almost as dense. Plenty of huntin to do right here near the house and great exercise.
