Default Replacement Side Fishing Rod Holders / Gunnel Rod Holder

This is my first post. I am looking to replace the side fishing rod holders on my 1987 V20. Has anyone else replaced theirs. Mine are cracked, and I want to repalce the teak trim with marine plywood type trim.

One of the recommended places for replacement boxes is

http://www.ssicustomplastics.com/

I dont believe they make one thats and exact size so you would have to open your holes up a little bit to make them fit. Definitely not cheap but the look nice.

There is a guy here in NJ that has 2 from his 1986 V that I can put you in touch with. They were in decent shape, the only parts missing were some flange areas that are covered by the trim anyway. Mine were the same faded yellow color as his which I painted and they look brand new. You can see a pic under the posting http://www.wellcraftv20.com/communit...t=10985&page=2

Welcome to the site by the way!!

I recomend that you try to fix them. If you remove them, sand out the cracks, tape wax paper on the sides, fill holes and cracks with glass, let dry, sand and paint, you are left with beautiful original gunnel holders. Save the teak too. A little care and nothing will look better. here is a pick of the holders I redid. Looked impossible to fix - totally cracked- peices missing- 30$ worth of supplies and I was glad I didnt cut my boat up to put some in that dont look like they came with the boat

Default rod boxs

My v didn’t come with any just holes where they used to be an owner before me must have tossed them. Mine are the type like the ones in the pictures with the angle in the front and rear. i took some measurements and squared off the angles and i would need a box with an inside dimension of 72 to 73" none of the box makers i have found have a box with this dimension. i have found 68" and then it goes to 88" 88 is way to be for any of the polls i have. Any suggestions? Thanks ~JOHN~

yea you should have never cut them till you had the new ones!!

But now that you have i guess i would get what fits the closest and add starboard to the ends to fill the void.
