may not be any fishing for me. Went out floundering this morning with a buddy, spent 4 hours on the water. Caught 5 flounder, 1 Keeper 18". started to head home and she went from cruising 3700 RPM to 2200 RPM quick, kept losing power, and then shut off. Before I had a chance to think, looked at the gauges and OH CHIT!!!!! 220 degrees (170 normal). boat shut itself off and turned around to STEAM everywhere. Then a big loud splash and Anti freeze went blowing and spraying everywhere. Well when the motor cover finally cooled down enought to take her off.....BLEW and I mean BLEW the main 2" hose from the block to the thermostat in half. So i am guessing the thermostat stuck shut and the hose was the weak link when the water in the block reached boiling stage....
![]() ![]() ![]() So the coast guard was right behind me doing a safety inspection and they thought we were on fire...due to the steam. well they were nice enough to tow me a mile to the marina.... gettin her fixed should be pretty easy, but just hope there was no engine damage. ![]() ![]() ![]() any thoughts from the mechanics??? got to get her fixed soon the tourney starts on Saturday morning....

Don't sound good. When they shut themselves off they normally scuff the piston skirts. I would pull the plugs out and fill the cylinders with MARVEL MYSTERY oil first and let it sit for a few hours. Then rotate the engine with a ratchet or something by hand to make sure it isn't locked up. If she rotates easily then I would start it up for a few seconds to make sure she don't knock. Don't worry about the blown hose for now, a few seconds shouldn't hurt your water pump and won't create enough heat to hurt the block. Although make sure you have water to the raw water pick-up as the rubber impeller will tear up in under 30 seconds of no water. If she sounds okay then fix your hose and T-stat and start her up with the coolant tank cap off. You'll want to look for bubbles at this point which would indicate a blown head gasket. If no bubbles then take her out and run her for about 20 minutes or so at around 2500. You'll want to get some heat in it, but not to much right now. Bring her back to idle and listen for a slapping sound. If all good then open her up to cruise for awhile and make sure it doesn't start to boil over your coolant. If all checks out you should be good to go.
And don't feel bad man. I tried to take my HYDRA out this weekend, but my water pump impeller decided otherwise. A 3 month old water pump impeller bit the dust and tore up on me, didn't make for a happy weekend.

MARVEL MYSTERY can be bought at any auto parts store or even most WAL MARTS. I would put a cup in each cylinder(or until it runs out of it). You want to get it in there and let it run down around the rings and piston skirt before you mess with it. After it got that hot all of the oil will be burned off the cylinder walls, so a good light weight oil like MARVEL will do the trick. It also works VERY well for unsticking piston rings that don't seal anymore.
My grandfather used to use this stuff years back as his secret tool. Anytime he bought an airplane that had been sitting for a year or two he would put a half gallon in the oil, and a half gallon in the fuel. He said within an hour they would stop burning oil past the rings.
