pped the top!Deck removed and see a tank that looks bigger than the hole. Top is in good condition. Port rear corner looks dingy and moist with gas. Tank stearn foam is saturated with water and gas. Rest of the foam looks dry. Fill hose is near dry rotted. Ground wire near fuel pickup hose broke off. New tank coming Fri/Sat. Fuel pick up valve looks like hell. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Took the hatch off and began to pull old fiberglass. The wood is saturated with water but the fiberglass itself is in excellent condition. Seems like a waste but here we go. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm working on the hatch while the gas siphons but have to replace anti siphon nipple to get flow. Also remove 2 pumps from the bilge area that were burned up in attempt to replace and rewire entire boat......the V20 marathon continues......advise welcome!

I assume you're going to have to cut the wood to remove the tank. If you do so, wouldn't it cause the hull to sag inward? I had this problem replacing the floor on my 77 glasstron when I was in my teens and I didn't account for it. The windshield didn't ever close right after that. What can be done to resolve that problem? Hind sight tells me to attach cables to pull the hull outward before any cutting, but this is a completely different hull than my experiences have. I'm going to follow this. Thanks for posting your progress.

The 2x4's you see in that picture are not stuctural. They are there to hold the tank down. You can remove them with no ill effect to the hull.

If you want to be ready for the new tank when it gets here you better get started!! that tank is going to be a SOB!!
As some have said, you have to get all the foam you can out and it will still be glued to the bottom!! Use 4x4 across the gunnel's to winch the tank out. most likely you going to have to hammer a hole or two in the tank to run a chain thur to lift! Don't cut the floor to get it out if you can help it!! The new tank will fit fine. Just beat the crap out of the junk tank to get it out. But I am worried more about the leanth of the tank then the width? Looks like its more under the floor?? Good Luck and no forget the pictures!! And wear some shoes will ya!! Need to protect them feet!!

Be sure to completely flush the old tank before you go beating on it. After I siphoned off the gas I removed the sender and stuck a garden hose down the filler and basicly let it run until I didn't see any more "rainbows" coming out of the tank. I filled the old tank with water several times and siphoned it off before I felt comfortable that there was no more traces of fuel or even worse fumes.
