Default Follow-up re:  Tough decision

A f ew more pertinent facts:

My V20 was operated in the ocean (in/around Scituate, MA) for the first 12 years of its career. It then sat on blocks in a backyard for a couple years. I then inherited it, and it has been used, at most, twice a year since then. I do not believe the risers have ever been replaced on the engine. The stern drive 1K plus later, should be in great condition. Because the V20 sat in the ocean for 6 months of the year, it has bottom paint. I re-painted the bottom this year, but, have not put it in the water AT ALL in 2006.

I want to keep the V20; however, something tells me that whatever I am able to get from sale of the Formula might not be enough to get the V20 into the kind of operating condition/appearance I want. Any thoughts/comments would be appreciated.

Thanks for your offer. It sounds like what I have described with the V20 engine leads you and others to believe that it may be shot. God, I hope that is not the case. Do you/others think the 350 from the Formula would fit in the V20 engine compartment? If so, would it mate up with the Alpha one sterndrive that is on the V20?

LOL re: Stinky's reply. Stinky, have you ever thought of going on the comedy circuit? You are a funny dude.! I will not part out the V20. It is in too good of shape to do so. I really like the boat. It reminds me of my family's first boat--a 1971 Speedliner 16 footer. Anyone remember those?? Had a very deep V and wide bow flare like the V20. Was not built as heavy, was light, and thus absolutely flew with its repowered motor-- a 1990 Evinrude 90 HP VRO.

Dude(s) and lady(ies). Help!! I have a digital camera, but I am a complete idiot as to how to upload pix. Tell me how to do it, and you will get lots of pix. Perhaps one of my wife with her head sticking out of the deck hatch while using the sani-pottie!

Go here this will explain all!!

http://www.wellcraftv20.com/cgi-bin/...num=1108430327

As for repower, if you are at all handy you could remove the outdrive and motor yourself.

This will save a ton of cash for the fiberglass guy!!

Again if you are handy its not hard to fill the transom were the outdrive *was.

This also will save you a ton of cash!!

Now getting a bracket, there are a lot around for cheap but you have to look!!
There is a guy here on the board hoarding one I am sure he will let go for cheap!

Or you can buy new from $800 to $1600 depending what you want?

As for the install of the bracket, you will need one or two guys to help hold it up after you get everything drilled and mesured. So you can bolt it on.

Or any mariner will install for you for a fee.

Then all thats left is the power, and depending on what you have done yourself and what you had to begin with, you can get a pretty good used O/B for $4000+

in all if you have someone do all the work it will cost around $1500+ not including the motor.

If you do it yourself with used bracket I would say $500 to $700 not including the motor.

Motor of 150 is what I feel the min for this boat, but there are some with less.

You can spend as little or as much for a motor as you want.
