Extinguisher by the captains chair. Another in cuddy cabin. First aid kit in cabin. Same with Anchor and rode. Everything else is pretty much wherever it lands. Some stuff in storage under the deck. But I keep the emergency stuff mounted and close at hand, cause the last thing you want to do is be hunting for something in an emergency.

I have a 78 also. Not to much storage. Just the cabin. It's like a big glove box but I want to keep it net and organized this year.

step not sure how the deck of the 78 is laid out,but i added this hatch to access the large void under the deck, between the cabin & the fishbox. the downside is the hatch gets a lot of traffic and has to be replaced every 3 or 4 years because of cracking. not so bad now that kids are bigger and don't jump from cabin rood to deck.

Primary anchor stays on the pulpit, rode goes through a closable stainless hawse pipe slightly to port and the rode is in a milk crate in the cuddy. Fire extinguisher is mounted to the inside gunnel behind the helm seat. Flares, tools, first aid kit etc are in dry boxes in the cuddy in the main storage compartment where many have a port a potty. I put a hinged hatch cover over this compartment which in addition to providing a lot more useable out of sight storage, makes going forward to work the anchor etc a lot easier without having to straddle the opening. I have an additional deck hatch inspired by Phatdaddy between the cuddy entry and the in deck "fish box". This houses two 1000 amp starting batteries plus a 1500 gph bilge pump. The "fishbox" has a second anchor and rode and a 5 gallon bucket inspired by Maco Joe. Life jackets set on the forward upper shelf in the cuddy along with dock fenders aft one on each side. The rear bilge has my oil tank and another 1500 gph bilge pump. In the upper rear hatches I keep a couple additional drain plugs for the bilge as well as the scuppers if needed. Also mooring lines and an emergency tow line. Deck brush and boat hook in the gunnel mount rod storage boxes.

The "storage under the deck" I mentioned in my first post is the same storage as is shown in the pictures that phatdaddy showed in his post. It's a great place to pick up several cubic feet of out of the way storage. You can buy the hatches @ West's or pretty much any marina.
